Luxury Staycation Bliss: My Weekend at the New Thompson Houston Hotel

One of my absolute favorite experiences is a well-planned staycation, and this past weekend, I had the pleasure of indulging in one at the newly opened Thompson Houston Hotel by Hyatt.

I enjoyed a two-night stay beginning on Friday, which provided the perfect foundation for a relaxing three-day retreat. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed by the friendly valet team, who promptly parked my car in their VIP lot. The check-in process, located on the 7th floor, was smooth, though navigating the separate elevators to reach my room required a bit of adjustment.

My home for the weekend was the Sky Suite on the 11th floor, a space that redefined luxury with its stunning view of the downtown skyline. The suite featured a plush king-sized bed, complete with a Tivoli sound system and convenient wall plugins for both old and new devices. The bathroom was nothing short of extraordinary, equipped with a Dyson hairdryer, a vanity area with adjustable LED mirrors, and a glass-enclosed wet room. The bathtub, which was positioned to overlook the skyline, was truly a highlight. The suite also boasted a separate living area, outfitted with a fully stocked minibar that included premium liquors.

The Thompson Houston Hotel offers an array of amenities, but my personal favorite was the rooftop pool. We reserved a private cabana, which included complimentary bottle service and a steady supply of snacks throughout our visit. These treats ranged from wellness shots to frozen sugar grapes and assorted fruit. The pool itself, a serene blue oasis with a stunning view of downtown, was the perfect place to unwind. Although they host lively pool parties, our weekend featured a live DJ spinning a fantastic mix of R&B and pop. For dining, the rooftop bar, Sol 7, offered a delightful selection of global flavors and contemporary cuisine. I tried their Wagyu Smashburger, which instantly secured a spot in my top five smash burgers in town.

Almond Croissant at Maven Coffee + Cocktails

Maven Coffee, located on the properties first floor next to valet, was another highlight with its sophisticated versatile lounge doubling in coffee during the day and cocktails at night. I highly recommend trying their almond croissant, which was delightfully flaky with a sweet, almond-filled center.

Hyatt has always been one of my preferred hotel brands when I travel, and the Thompson Houston Hotel has undoubtedly earned its place on my list of favorites.
